  • Is my child eligible for free nursery sessions?

    All children are entitled to 15 hours per week of funded childcare from the term after their 3rd birthday. 


    Some families will be entitled to 30 hours of funded childcare, click here for more information about the extended entitlement.

  • Do you support the 2 year old funding scheme?

    Yes we can offer childcare to all 2-year-olds, some children are entitled to funding starting from the term after their 2nd birthday, click here for more information about funded childcare for 2 year olds.

  • Can I choose the sessions my child has?

    Yes, please speak to us about what you would prefer and we will try and accommodate as best we can!

  • How much do you charge per session?

    If you want your child to attend extra sessions, above any funded sessions, it is £12.00 for 3/4 year olds and £15.00 for 2 year olds.

  • Do you provide lunch?

    Delicious nursery meals are prepared on-site by our nursery chef Debbie. These cost £2.20 per day for all ages, or free if you are entitled to free school meals and attending a full day.


    Alternitively, you are welcome to provide your child with a packed lunch.

  • What times are the sessions?

    Morning sessions are 9:00am - 12:00pm, afternoon sessions are 12:00pm - 3:00pm. Your child can also attend a full day from 9:00am - 3:00pm

  • Will my child have a key worker?

    Your child will be allocated a key worker, their role is to really get to know you and your child. They will be your first point of contact at the start and end of each session if you have any questions about your child.



  • How can I prepare my child for starting nursery?

    • You can visit the nursery and use other groups in the Centre so that your child will become used to the environment e.g. 'Ready Steady Preschool'
    • Talk to your child and read books about starting nursery
    • Encourage your child's independence, eg putting on their own socks and shoes or making choices in their own play.
    • Toilet train your child if they are ready to do this.
  • What do I do if my child is sick and cannot attend?

  • My child has had a sickness bug, when can I bring them back to nursery?

    If your child has a sickness bug, the Health Protection Agency state they must stay at home for at least 48 hours after the last bout of sickness. For information on illnesses please see 'The Spotty Book'

  • Can my child take medication at nursery?

    Chestnut Nursery School staff can only administer medication which has been prescribed by a doctor. You will be asked to complete a daily medication form which must be signed every day your child needs the medicine. 

    Please speak to your key worker if you have any concerns regarding medication your child needs. 

    If your child has a complex medical need we will ask you to complete a care plan.

  • My child uses nappies, can they come to nursery?

    We require you to complete an intimate care agreement (included in your application form) to allow us to change your child if they use nappies or if they have an accident at nursery. Parents must bring changing bags with nappies/wipes/bags for children who are using nappies.

  • How will I kept informed about what my child is doing at nursery?

    You will be provided with information about events at the nursery via the website, social media pages, parent text/email system and a monthly newsletter. Please also check your child’s tray regularly.
