What's On

Shared Book Bag

Each Key Worker has a book bag which gets taken home by the children in their key groups. The shared book bag has a story book, a scrap book, and pens. The idea of the story bag is to offer families the chance to have a special story time with their child and to promote reading together at home. Reading regularly with your child helps to build their vocabulary and helps the children to become familiar with the sounds needed to for later phonics learning.

Shared Story Time

Come and join us on the first nursery day of each month at 2:45pm to share a story book with your child.

At Chestnut Nursery we have teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage and joined the Plastic Free Nurseries programme. The programme was developed to tackle unnecessary single use plastics in communities, schools and nurseries across the UK. Plastic pollution is a complex problem and requires action from every level.

At Chestnut Nursery we are committed to reducing our plastic footprint and guiding the children to make sense of their physical world and community, through hands-on activities and personal experiences. As part of our nursery curriculum, we help the children to foster an appreciation of the natural world and nurture their desire to protect it

Since starting our ‘Plastic Free Nursery’ journey we have identified single use plastics in nursery that we will use up and not replace – disposable coffee cups and lids, glitter, plastic craft materials. We have also identified plastic materials we can reduce our use of – laminated paper, nappy sacks. Finally, we have identified plastic items we can wash and recycle for the recycling bin or for craft – yoghurt pots, bottle tops.

In addition to our reduction of plastics at nursery we have invited staff and parents to make a pledge to remove at least one single-use plastic from their lives. All staff have joined this club and made their pledge, as have several parents. New parents are invited to join us in our endeavours. Just ask nursery staff or reception for details.

Once a half-term we have started a parent and children community and nursery grounds litter pick. It is amazing how much rubbish is out there! Thank you to all the families who have come along and helped us. Do check the calendar for the next litter pick dates.
