Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement

At Chestnut Nursery School we strongly recognise the need for vigilant awareness of safeguarding issues. All staff have received appropriate training and induction so they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out.

Staff, pupils, parents and governors feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This is achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children, young people and protecting staff.

We have a duty to refer and safeguarding issues to external agencies that need to be involved.

Our Designated Safeguarding Officer is Sarah Baker and the Deputy Designated Lead for child protection is Emma Taggart or Cathryn Boxall. Our Safeguarding Governor is Nathalie Schwegmann.

Chestnut Nursery School Safeguarding Policy 2022

It is the responsibility of all adults to ensure the safeguarding of children

If you are a visitor to the nursery and have concerns for a child’s welfare it is your responsibility to inform a member of staff immediately. You will be asked to fill out a safeguarding concern form which are located at the front reception desk.

In some circumstances you may feel the need to report directly to the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). They can be emailed or telephoned.

Supporting our Families

At Chestnut Nursery School we have a dedicated team of professionals who are here to support children and their families if required. We have close links to Family Support Workers, School Nurses, Health Visitors and many more professionals with a broad range of skills that can offer support to many families.

If you feel that you might need support with any number of situations or just a bit of advice please contact Emma Taggart, or any member of staff you feel comfortable with. All information shared with staff members is confidential. If that staff member is concerned for the safety of a child and then the appropriate agencies will be informed.
